After sailing my H25 for many years I am trying to configure my sails for heavy weather sailing. Each time I sail in over 20 knots I feel I need a different sail config. I have a reef in the mail but it is very conservative. I am guessing in only reduces the sail to about 90 sq ft. I have a storm sail of 80 sq. ft. I am wondering what others are using on the H25 shoal draft for these conditions. I am considering another reef in the mail and maybe reduction in the storm jib size. Several downwind sail with main only reefed seemed over canvased. Boat seem to need a head sail in all winds except downwind. I see the storm jib size from sailrite is closer to 60 sq ft. Wondering what works for other bear nuckle sailors. Thanks

I hear you - on My H 25.5 shoal keel in most cases I sailed with the main reefed ( only one reef point) and the jib reefed to 100% or less at about 18 to 25 knots. Anything over that - just rool up sails and head back.

I found some info on sailrite web site

I found some good information on sails for the H25 on the sailrite web site. The storm jib they sell for the H25 is about 55 sq feet. I measured my heavy weather jib and it is 64 sq ft so I feel it is right for the job. I think the main needs to reef to around 50 sq ft. That is half its normal size. Should do the trick. I think moving the batteries to under the port cabin bunk should add some stability. Match that with my storm anchor and chain under the starboard bunk. Should be around 240 lbs of extra ballast. Man I can't wait for spring!
