Heat Exchanger 1988 Volvo Model 2003

On our new (to us) boat, a 1989 Beneteau First 35s5, the Volvo Model 2003 needs a new heat exchanger. I pulled it out last weekend. It had been leaking onto the starter and causing corrosion on the starter, elbow, head and block. I pulled the exchanger (what a job) and brought it home for cleaning. The corrosion was so bad it looked like a rock inside and the outer housing just crumbled when I tried to disassemble it.

The Volvo dealer wants $1,900 for a new heat exchanger.

Does anyone know of an after market source for this exchanger?

Mike sorry to hear about your problem.. That's a Volvo for ya! Anyway, without details on your engine, we can only guess as to what you have...

Yes, this! I've found their personnel to be knowledgeable and helpful.

Plan B: you are not too far from the US headquarters for Betamarine. :)

That Volvo HE design with the salt water leaking down onto the starter is a well known design defect.
If you are planning to keep the boat, and it is a good all around design to own for the long haul, consider this upgrade.
