Hello; My family of four plans to weekend aboard our new 310. Any idea how often I should plan to have the holding tank pumped? What are the best/safest head cleaning and holding tank deoderizing products? Thanks! Kurt

Head Care

I recently purchased a C30 and had similiar questions about the frequency of head pump out and treatments. I found that I was pumping too much lakewater into the holding tank when I had the seacocks open. I asked around and many boaters keep the seacocks closed and simply pour about 8 oz of water in the head to flush to the holding tank. This reduces the amount of intake water filling up the tank. As for treatment, I purchased K.O as per Peggy Hall Head Master and have been satisfied with results. Keep in mind, depending on the size of your holding tank, a day with four people using the head and pumping too much water through the seacocks into the holding tank will certainly keep you going back to the pumpout stations. Good luck.

Head/holding tank use

Yes, use just fresh water--the water that you use to wash your hands. Opening the thru hull not only tends to pump too much water into the holding tank, it can also cause overflow into your boat if someone doesn't move the head lever to DRY. Waking up and finding water on the floor boards is not a very comfortable experience, as I remember.
