If Santa could bring you just one gift this year, and it had to be for your boat, what would you wish for? A new electronic gizmo, some sails, or new rigging? Maybe a new dinghy, a quiet 4-stroke outboard... or hey, a whole new sailboat might fit down the chimney!? Perhaps more wisdom for the skipper, or a new attitude for some of the crew? Share your holiday wish here, then vote in this week's Quick Quiz at the bottom of the home page. (Quiz contributed by Gary Wyngarden and Phil Herring based on a suggestion from Les Blackwell)

Wish list

Though there are a number of things that could be added to update or simply jazz up our sailboat, I think that more time to sail would top my list. Happy Holidays folks.

My wish would be some nice solar panels and a twelve volt refrigerator. Oh yes.

Roller Furler

If I say I still believe in Santa, can I have a CDI roller furler?

Stocking stuffer

Dear Sailing Santa, Is it too much to ask you to put a nice, wooden 8 foot sailing dinghy in my stocking? I've been a good boy and never yelled at the crew (my wife) all this year. I would want to have full rigging on her. The dinghy, that is. There will be cookies on the mantle.

Got it all except....

Santa has already provided the boat, the gear, the time, and even a plan to go cruising next year. Now if he could just bring an Admiral who *loves* to sail...

CREW? WHAT CREW?

I started thinking about all the things I might want for my "mistress"- and then I realized that it all doesn't make a whole lot of difference if I don't have anyone to go sailing with! In my case, I have a wife who hates the boat, a daughter who's too busy, a son who loves the boat but lives 400 miles away, and no friends who would be interested enough to become regular "sailing buddies." So I guess the one thing at the top of my Christmas list would be crew.

Self Tailing Winches and fair weather

I would like Santa to bring a pair of Self Tailing Winches for my c-30. And for everyone on Lake Erie...75 degrees, 10kts out of the SW, Sunshine All Year Long :)

Christmas Wish

Santa is being very nice to us this year since we are getting a brand new Catalina 28mkII. It should be on its way to us from CA this week. And of course we need all the accessories such as a new mapping GPS <grin> that Santa has already delivered.

Can't go wrong with Wisdom & Skill

Wisdom and Skill for the Captain and crew are at the top of my list, but since Santa doesn't deliver that sort of thing, I'd ask for a generator.

What's Missing?

Dear Santa, I've been a pretty good boy this year - please leave me lots of cash, money, fundage, green stuff, coinage, etc., any denomination is fine - just lots of it... And as long as you're at it, would love to see a bikini-clad beauty (25-35) wearing a cute bow sitting beside the tree for me (to be my crew, guys - come on!?!) Otherwise, please see my note I sent dated December 1, 2002 where I ask for a hand-held VHF or GPS - thank you very much! Happy Holidays to all and to all a good day! Haven't Been That Good, But Here Goes Anyway . . .

Dear St. Nick, I'd like a small (no damage or injuries please) earthquake that opens a new channel thru San Diego's Silver Strand to the sea. Creating a few more creeks or inlets to explore would be nice too. I'd like you to cause all landlubbing port authorities to wake up Xmas morning with a sudden new love and appreciation for boating. I'd like you to cause West Marine to discount my West Advantage points right there at the counter when I buy something, maybe you could show them how a computer program could make that possible. I'd like you to plant the idea into a top Universal executive that what the world needs more than anything else is a new $1000 Diesel motor. I'd like you to strike Peggy Hall with an idea for a new Atomic Toilet where all that nasty stuff just goes away and I never have to visit a pump-out again. Well, that's it for this year, thanks. P.S. Oh, and World Peace, if you could manage it. Nick "Julia Bell" C-27, #86

Fair Winds

Dear Santa I have been so good (maybe not all the time) this year, that I would like to have steady 20 kts of wind, almost flat water and the weather to be 80 degrees when we go sailing. If I get what I want for Christmas this year, I will be even better next year. Thank You Santa John, Joyce and Lucy :)
