Hello everyone we are hauling our boat out Oct. 20th. We are moored in Lake Michigan in Milwaukee. I was just wondering when most northern sailor haul their boat? Thanks in advance for your replies.

That was my question but I must of done something wrong. I am bummed that my sailing season will be coming to an end soon.
I infer it depends on where you are. My son, who has his boat in Milwaukee, typically hauls in Oct or early Nov at latest which seems typical for that area for some reason I don't understand ( it might be a reflection of the racing season ending) but here in Rhode Island, summer ends in ealry December (I wish...)
I keep my '92 H28 in Boothbay Maine on a mooring during the summer and sail down to Newburyport, MA to haul for the winter. This year I am hauling on 14 October

End of the week
We are across Lake Michigan from you (in Charlevoix, MI) and after living aboard since early June, weare taking all apart for winter storage this weekend.
It has been a great summer but soon the sailing this far north gets rather "hard" when the snow starts to fly and the great lake freezes.

Officially October 18 at Owen Sound marina on Georgian Bay, but since I don't need their crane, I'll try to stretch the season, weather permitting.

From the Town marina,no if and or buts or they impound your boat and I'm about the last one to leave cause where I store i'm one of the first to launch early (2nd week of March) but this year I think I want to be out by Oct 31 so I can get more work done and have a easy spring work load before launch day.

I sailed 25 years out of Racine. I traditionally hauled out on Columbus Day weekend as I had that Monday off of work. There is not much point in staying in after the last week of Oct. If you are going to cover your boat, you want to be sure to leave enough time to do that. Good days for that type of work get harder to find in late fall. Putting a cover on when temps are in the 30s makes one realize while mid Oct is a good time.

I sail on the Chesapeake about 20 miles south of Annapolis. I typically sail until the first week of December and get hauled the second week of December.... Where has the summer gone?

Staying in for winter
Our marina encourages slip holders to stay in the water for the winter.
There are bunches of boats from around the Chesapeake that come there for winter storage. Meanwhile the marina is landlocked. No room for expansion.
So they make it very worthwhile for us to do "wet storage". A good bubbler, installed such that you can come and go from the slip. They do daily dock inspections. And oh yes... a free bottom paint job next summer.
But generally, anywhere I've had a boat in this area, October 31st is the last day.

:cry:We sail on Navajo Lake near Arboles, Co and our sailing club haul out at Two Rivers Marina is the last week in October--a few boats stay in the water, but snow and freezing temperatures are the norm over the winter.
We'll put her in dry storage at the Marina over the winter.

This Friday, and not because I really want to haul out. But we did get caught with a October snow storm that was a beaut. So I'll be out and covered by Sunday, one less thing to worry about. The dinghy will stay in until the 20th of Oct
In Traverse City Michigan the marina closes at the end of October - could go longer but we're usually content to clean her up and put her away in her condo when it's still decent weather..
