I want to replace the forward hatch on my Starwind 27. The existing hatch has a manufacturers name on it - Gray Enterprises from Tampa, Fla. I wasn't able to locate them until I found the web site for Bomar/Gray (I am assuming that there must have been a merger). So I looked at the online catalogue and found several choices and I am now confused as to what product will serve our needs best. The Sea Breeze Cruising line is low profile and offers a venting hatch that seals out water. The Sea Breeze Offshore line is high profile but functions the same. There is a trim ring offered that fits a screen. Venting seems like it would be a big plus if it actually works without leaking. If you have the screen installed, does that mean it is permanently fixed and you can't use the hatch to stow headsails? What is the difference between low and high profile in the way they function? The 2 lines I mention seem to have a hatch offered in a size that best replicates the existing hatch. There are other lines available at a range of costs. Molded hatches seem to be cheaper, cast aluminum more expensive. Also the port lights on my boat leak just a little but the glass is crinkled (not exactly broked or cracked - but crazed). There are 2 on each side that I want to replace. They are not rectangular, rather, they are rectangular on one end but trapezoidal on the other end (I don't know what the shape is called). They must be of a standard size but I can't find a source for what I need to fit the openings.Any help, suggestions, opinions, etc. would be greatly appreciated!
