Now in support of Gary's quest, there are reasons to be able to lock the hatch boards to keep them from rising up in a storm. If not locking them at the least securing them so that water boarding the boat is kept out.

Keeping the crew safe while sitting in a dangerous harbor or a night passage in bad waters is another issue. Go on YouTube and there are numerous blogs of cruisers dealing with raiders (pirates :yikes:) in foreign waters. I think there was even an episode of the the infamous La Vagabond crew who had a boat pull up near it and the crew started throwing cans of food at the approaching boat.

Knowledge about events and regions of unrest may be our best defense as a cruising boat. Hiding our heads in the sand is just unwise.
Here is one site.

This is on my 40.5 and is for security when cruising and in unfamiliar marinas or in anchorages with questionable boats. The two sets of hasps were purchased from this site.
