C320

I used two boxes of engine insulation I bought from Defender. It comes with siver tape for seams and hangers along with the insulation. It is 1" foam with sliver backing. Took about 3 hrs. to complete and reduced noise by about 50%. The only other thing you need is 5200 to secure the hangers.

Any further notes?

Joe I've contemplated doing this on my C320, too. That Yanmar can be noisy! This summer we had to motor all the way from Portland, ME down to Gloucester, MA (85 NMi or so) due to high winds & seas directly on the rhumb line. I can still hear the engine in my sleep, and feel the waves breaking over the bow (later, we actually found a small fish wedged under the dodger). Regarding your installation, any further instructions, dos/don'ts, etc would be appreciated: Were there any clearance problems? Particularly near the belts. Did it affect air circulation/cooling any? Does it affect the ability to remove/open the two access panels? How are the materials holding up under use? --Ron C320 #831, "Lady Jane"

Crankshaft Pulley Clearance

Ron, You will have to carve out about 1/2" for the crankshaft pulley. The engine will not run hotter but the heat will stay in that box next to the aft berth for many hours which can be helped somewhat by running the bilge fan. The insulation only affects removing the covers by making them many pounds heavier to help keep you in shape :>) After 3 years mine look like new. Stan "Christy Leigh" c320 #656

One more Q

The Aft Cabin removable cover over the prop shaft/through hull/transmission area has some complex curves. Any problems fitting the insulation there? Or did you not bother with it? --Ron
