@Windpilot couple more questions. You mentioned the double turn blocks and additional deck hardware to accommodate the staysail sheets etc ... What did you end up doing hardware wise for leading the sheets beyond the double blocks. Not really an ideal spot for a secondary track set up.... Considering an controllable friction ring lead setup, but curious how you ran your sheets.

did you end up rigging mast storage for your two poles? And have you experienced any need to run guys on the staysail when having both polled out?

I just left Hawaii bound for CA on my 410.
Polls are mounted on both sides. Big pole is stationairy fore aft guys, topping lift. Smaller pole is simply attached to clew (I know) and I leave it on and roll it up.
The sheet shouldn't be inside the struts, I re route them outside downwind.

@Windpilot , hope you are out cruising brother. finally getting moving on this project. Got the tang for the inner stay fabricated and installed. Working with sailmaker and thinking about going with a removable soft stay sewn into the sail to eliviate tacking issues on shorter runs, with a top down furling system. Also considering some type of double purchase set up to control halyard tension, a bit worried about the amount of weight the staysail block built into mast can handle without a a permanent stay.

Thoughts?

I had to go back and reread our conversation and realized that our conversations took place on my Hawaii round trip enroute. 24 days 5 hours to get back to CA. I want to do it again!
I am out cruising, on a mooring today in Catalina, Mexico in the fall.
Anyhow, you lost me at soft stay sewn in. You want it to be single line for sheeting?
Great but needs track on deck.
And the sail is relatively small, halyard tension won't need a purchase to raise.
But I don't know your boat, my 410 already had the forestay fitting and halyard exit luckily, it was a factory option, i think you have a 410 and should have it also, no?
I'm using my little twist lock forespar pole on the inner sail in photo and using it often since it's so easy since I'm singlehanded. And my boats pretty fast when I let her go if close to shore, offshore I reef way way more.
