The floor of the 37C I'm planning to purchase has a parquey floor with solid oak boards (warped) covering the bilge access openings. I have not seen this type floor in any pictures or seen mention of it in the archives. Anyone know if it is original or an owner modification? This is a 79 model year, hull number 7 if that makes a difference. Marc

not original

Ouch that is a bit on the ugly side and definitely not original, better than my flooring when i bought my boat which was pressure treated plywood.

H37C #7.

That parquet flooring is definitely not the original. The Related Link has some pictures of my well worn 1979 cabin sole. I also wonder about the fronts of the settees. On my H37C those are white gelcoated fiberglas. I guess that could have been a change between #7 and my #74. It is not inexpensive but a friend did an older Hunter with a thin teak veneer that came out beautifully. That assumes that you have some kind of solid base. Replacing the base with a good 3/4" marine plywood would be major task. On my boat those bilge panels are a fairly heavy 3/4" but also have reinforcement stringers running lengthwise, two on each panel. They are mounted about 1 1/2 inches from the outside edges.

putting together all the info for you

Hi Marc, Over this last year we have done almost everything in our 37C including the teak and holly flooring. I have gathered our pictures and will post them in the photo forum for you. From rip out to installation. we still have the original peices of teak and holly and can make up paper patterns for you if you would like them. It took 3 sheets of teak and holly plywood and cost about $355 for the three. We've recently found a place here in Jersey with good prices. Try "Global Teak" in Hammonton NJ if you cannot find what you need in Va. If you need any assistance or advice please don't hesitate to contact us, we would be happy to share what ever information you might want. Contact us lwauletta@comcast.net Best of luck with your new project! Laurie and TJ

Teak and Holly thickness

Jeff, thanks for the pictures, your cabin sole looks great! Now that I have bought the boat I have a lot of questions. How thick is the teak and holly plywood? Did you back it up with anything or just glue it directly to the cabin sole fiberglass? What glue did you use? Where did you get the channel to go around the bilge opening? Does it have a lip for the floor hatches to rest on? Any others comments welcomed. Thanks, Marc

Sette fronts

The sette fronts on my 1980 H37C are also white gel coat. I agree with H37skipper that they are probably not original.

Jeff, sole thickness

on my 33' was 1/4 plywood with the teak/holly veneer. Because my boat had the fiberglas pan through out, there was not a need to use a heavier thickness. It does come in both 1/2 and 3/4" thickness if you think it needs it. I simply glued the plywood to the fiberglas pan, then held it down while it dried using 1 X 2" extending from the ceiling to the floor. I looked at a Hunter 34 in the slip next to me this past week, and she had 3/4 plywood for the flooring with the teak/holly veneer. It was delaminating and a real mess. I don't know what she is going to do. AS I mentioned in my project notes, I wound up using a Polyurethene adhesive avaibile at Home Depot. I order the aluminum channel for the bilge cover from a site on the internet. I believe I looked up " aluminum T-Bar. Leave me your email, and I will see if I can find the site again. A local welding shop welded the pieces together for me. It was 1/16" thick. I drilled the sides of the t-bar and screwed them to the edge of the cover (which was 1/2" marine plywood with the 1/4" teak/holly glued to it) making it 3/4". So the bilge cover hangs on the sole with one edge of the t-bar channel. Good luck...you can reach me at sherm8923@aol.com

Me too!

Hello all, On our 37C I recently pulled up the old teak plywood flooring, cleaned up the glue residue and havent replaced the flooring yet. I put down carpet for the winter months. Living aboard... All the teak holly sole iI can find is quite $$$$$. Averaging $250 per sheet of 1/4" 4x8FT. I plan to replace it this spring when the warm weather returns. If any one has any information to locate teak I would appreciate it. I have looked from North Carolina to Maryland so far. Ray OBX Sailor

PULLING IT UP

MY FLOORING IS ALSO IN BAD SHAPE AND I HAVE THOUGHT ABOUT REPLACING IT ALSO BUT IT APPEARS THAT THE FLOORING GOES UNDER THE BULKHEADS AND THAT BOTHERS ME.. HOW DO YOU GET IT OUT ??? IT IS ALSO UNDER THE LEG THAT HOLDS UP THE NAV STATION AND THE AFT CABIN... I WAS GOING TO USE A DREMMEL TOOL TO CUT IT AWAY FROM THESE AREAS AND JUST REPLACE WHATS LEFT.... ANY IDEAS>??????????????
