rerouting
I originally planned to re-do the through hull part. Mine were just fiberglass tubes stuck into the hull as I expect all were. I made new tubes of fiberglass and had every intention of installing them. When it came time for us to leave in '99 that was one of the things that was not done.I considered the things I had left to do, including the cockpit drain exits, the bent rudder and more, and asked myself: "Will any those things keep us from making it on our trip? Do we want to work on this thing forever?" The answer to both was no, so we said to heck with it, we're going. We took off and cruised another 5000 miles. Those things are still not done as I type this. I guess I got lazy!Somewhere along the way of that 5000 mile trip I realized that the exhaust was causing the majority of the water in the cockpit and decided that I'd attack that instead. Someday I will.I think Tom's fix of putting real through hulls in might be just as good a fix, and I may just try that first, as it's easier. The way the factory installed them, they face forward and become a scoop in the water, and the through hull may just change the angle enough that it is no longer a problem.Ed, I did change the cockpit end, and what I did was install 1 1/2" through hulls where those tiny drains used to be. I screwed right angle fittings on the bottom of those and ran them toward the back. I did, however, still leave the crossed, as I could not run them to the original outputs with the angle they had if the hoses went straight.I did solve two problems. The cockpit drains about 4 times as fast, and the hoses no longer accumulate crud and stop up as they did when they made the low down path they originally took. Now I only have the problem we are discussing.
