A spinn halyard for any masthead boat is 2 1/2 times the mast height. For a frac rig it's 2 1/2 times the "I". The tack line of a cruising spinnaker does not attach to the forestay (or the rolled headsail). It is run through a turning block at the bow so that it can be adjusted for varing points of apparent wind.

Rick, are you refering to something like the ATN Tacker? This thing restricts the movement of the spinnaker luff. I would not use one of these things. Daryl, Your spinnaker halyard is way too big and not long enough. If ever you drop your chute in the water, you'll wish like hell you had a longer halyard.

The top of the mast on a H34 is 46' from the top of the doghouse. Thus, 46' x 2.5 = 115'. The mast height from the waterline is about 51.5'. If that's the measurement to use, the halyard should be about 129' (51.5' X 2.5) long. Which measurement method is correct? ~ Happy sails to you ~ _/) ~

The correct length is based on the height of the mast above the deck. Daryl is quite right about the halyard length for his 34....my mistake for not doing the math correctly. I used my mast height instead... 50 X 2 1/2= 125 Sorry for the screw up!!

I'd rather deal with a little extra line. Your 115' is the right length.
