Why does the boat have to be perfectly parallel to the dock when you are temporarily hanging off a "midship" cleat?
No, not at all. Use of the midship cleat allows you to quickly get the boat parallel to and up against the doc. Jump off the boat and try pulling on the stern line, the stern comes in and the bow goes out and vice versa. Try holding both lines at once :( :poop::(:poop::(:poop: !

The midship line is only on for a brief time while you' making the bow and stern lines fast. Other than that, chuck it for next time.

@DeniseO30 if this is for a Hunter 34 with slotted toe-rails you can use a Dyneema soft shackle on the toe rail to run a line through to a winch or cleat on deck somewhere (or I suppose you could tie the line off to the soft shackle). This is what we have done for years on our Oday 39 for docking and spring lines. If nothing else it would help you experiment with cleat location prior to drilling holes.

I attached my midship cleats to the toerail midship. they have worked well for the last 5 years through heavy storms.

Your avatar photo shows that you have a perforated aluminum toe rail. My spring line is attached to my toe rail with two bolt type carabiners. No need for a mid-ship cleat. If you still want or need to add mid-ship cleats though, you could experiment with a spring line attached the toe rail to determine the optimum cleat location.
By the way, I use my toe rail spring line only to get on and off the dock; not for long term docking. That’s done with dock spring lines run from a mid-dock cleat forward to the bow cleat and aft to the genoa winch. Don’t want the annoyance of carabiners rattling on the toe rail at night.

On my H31 I’ve used the Johnson folding cleats attached to the toe rail For spring lines. Attached at widest point.
