H260 Single Line Reefing, Stanchions & Used Parts

Hi.

I sail a 260 solo quite often and find with our newer fully battened, full roach main I reef a lot more. Going to the boom in snotty conditions is a leap of faith - see nothing but bad in the future.

Think I have a nice design plan to install 2 single line systems (using small blocks to minimize friction) back to the cockpit. Really don't want to set the rig up/take it down to take line measurements. Any rough idea how much I'll need? My estimate is 55' of 3/8" for the lower reef.

2nd question. The current stanchions are the perfect height for tripping. Has anybody replaced these? I'm thinking of cutting and welding in center extension sections.

And...anybody have a lead on someone who is parting out a 26/260?

Actually, single line reefing is not addressed but made me rethink my line diameter needs. 5/16 " looks good vs 3/8".

I am sorry, I thought it was item #4 Reefing Line 5/16" green fleck 37'?

That would be for the stock slab type system (which does work).

I just don't want to keep going to the mast to reef while sailing solo. Looking to modify this - hopefully on the cheap. Friction is a concern.

Yep, that is what I did. It works really well with the blocks on the tack reef and clew reef. I would think 55' is plenty on your boat as I used that length on my C30. I use 5/16th NER VPC line.

I'm kinda excited. This will be a really nice addition/safety amenity for us. It will be fun to be able to balance the boat quicker.

Our home water - Lucky Peak: a Boise River impoundment (about 10 miles east of downtown).

With the plug pulled from the tub.

Had a nice conversation with Dave C.

He suggested that folks have used turning blocks and controlled the single line reefing system from the back of the boom. This would definitely allow better solo control of the tiller.
