Thanks, now I have a greater appreciation for the hold my beer phrase!
Dave, I have been practicing more raising and lowering the mast using the gin pole and stern crutch on the 240. Its kind of tricky to accurately lower the mast to drop right into the crutch target. The crutch is on a pole that can easily rotate with the wind or minor vibrations in the boat - had to stabilize the pole before dropping the mast. Then I found that it was difficult to pull the mast system forward into the pulpit cradle because the mast kept getting caught in the crutch - as I pulled the mast forward, the crutch would rotate slightly and trap the mast keeping it from sliding through. Finally had to lift and pull the mast at the crutch to get it to move forward. Consequently the mast dropped about a foot and slammed into the pulpit cradle - no damage but it would have turned out more elegantly if I had pulled the mast forward from midship instead of at the stern crutch. Any ideas to make this more graceful?
