Does any one know the measurements of a main sail cover for a 1987 H23? It has a francespar mast, also does anyone know if it will handle a 155 jib or should I get a 135, thanks Joe

Joe, Both jibs could be too big.

We have a H26 without a backstay as the boat was designed to run a larger main sail with a larger roach than more conventional designs with backstays. Because of this feature larger jibs will hit/rub against the shrouds and damage the sail. I am not sure how your boat is set up but I'd check before buying a jib. Good luck Ray

RE: H23 Mainsail cover dimensions

The cover for my 89, H23 is 35" at the mast, 121" at the foot, and about 9" at the clew end. I have posted a diagram with more dimensions titled "H23 Mainsail cover dimensions" in the Photo Forum. I think a 155 would be great!

Joe, I have an 86 H23 and use a 155% all the time. You will have no problems with this sail. The 23 sails very nice with the big head sail. I use mine in anything under 15 kts of wind. Then I drop down to my 110%. You will be quite a bit faster with the larger jib. Only thing to remember is after you tack, to slack sheets until your boat speed is back, then pull in and go. This is due to the short stubby wing keel. If you don't pick up some speed you will just sit there and crab. Scott H23 "No Alibi" #598

There is plenty of use for a 135 or 150 on the H23

A few weeks back I made the unwise decision of racing in light air (under 10 kt) with just the 110 working jib. Never again. Peter S/V Raven

Thanks, what brand of mast do you all have?

Thanks for your help, what brand of mast do you have and how long are your spreaders?

My mast

MY H23 is an '88. It has the real bendy Z-Spar mast with the 36-inch spreaders. Peter H23 "Raven"
