I am modifying the main cabin table so it can be removable. After working on the boat for 2 years and not having it in the cabin, I took it in the other day and found out it is big and bulky. I have decided to make it removable so I have modified the base so both legs are on the same side and moved the leaves hinges. I have cut the mast hole in half so I can install the table after the mast is in. I have made two cleats that surface mount and connect the two halves back together. There is no weight on that part of the table anymore so it should do O.K. and will help steady the table longitudinally.

My main problem is finding a way to attach the legs to the sole without leaving a raggedy screw hole on the sole. I have looked high and low for some sort of insert that would look good on the sole with the table removed. To date, all that I came up with was to drill a hole on the sole and epoxy in a stainless T nut from under the sole. I assume that I can access the holes from the bilge.

Is your table removable and if so, how is it attached to the floor??

Thanks for your input.

First thing we did 2 1/2 yrs ago when buying our 37 was remove the table. It was in the way. We hired someone to take the table apart and use as much of it as he could and made a foldup table. We found that we use only the leaf on the starboard side, so we are going to remove the port side leaf. We also had shelves added behind the table. I used it exclusively as a computer station on our last cruise and my husband used the nav table for his computer.

I modified my table exactly the same way Jose. And ten years later have the same question that you just posed. My table is not anchored in any way. I have to be on a really bad heel before it moves very much. But it should be secured in some way. Probably a hole in the sole with pins in the feet. Let us know how you do it.

Mary Ellen - WOW, I really like what you did with your table. I'm inspired!

I am also impressed by the table. A perfect solution. very practical, yet easy to get out of the way. Unfortunately, my limited bulkhead space is reserved for the heater.
You may want to post a picture in the owners mod page so another owner may be inspired by your solution.

The previous owners of our boat created wooden L frames about 3/8 thick and about 1.5" by 1.5" and attached them to the floor along the outside edges of each leg of the table. They have never jumped out of these frames and they were stained to match the floor.
