Just check that the valve is bronze and has no brass. I am not sure but I think some Apollo valves intended for household use may have brass. You need to check.

The ball in the Groco valve is chrome plated brass. So it appears that at a lower price the Apollo is superior, at least in this aspect.

Velero, please make sure you understand the possible thread mismatch between thru-hulls and the screw on valves, no matter which brand you go with. MaineSail has several excellent articles on his website about this.

Many Hunters, including mine, came with mismatched threads from the factory.

I have Apollo seacocks on our boat (installed by Hunter), as well as 3 Groco seacocks I replaced the Apollos with in 2020. I'd absolutely go with the Groco. I used the 1-piece with the triangular base (which some criticized b/c you'd have to replace the whole thing if the seacock fails), but I'd use the same if I did it over again.

BTW: there's a certain pucker factor you have to get over when you're installing a new thru-hull for the first time, but it was really no big deal. Well... figuring out how to do the backing plate was a small deal. I went with the Groco backing plates, but probably would do a fiberglass disk if I had it to do over again. Not for any reason I can defend: the Groco backing plates worked just fine.
