Hideaway ....

I thought I would revive this thread in a new direction. I found this Josh Lucas film in a Best Buy and I got to watch it tonight as we're still hunkered down with generator power. I think it's a nice little film set in Bower's Harbor, Michigan on Grand Traverse Bay. Very scenic as Josh Lucas restores an old derelict sailboat as he restores his life. One thing, though .... I thought Lake Michigan freezes over that far north in winter.

Anybody else see this film?

That looks good Scott. I've been through that area and it is stunningly beautiful. The movie is #1 in the Netflix list. Thanks for the tip.

Lake M does not normally freeze over in the winter. As far as I know, Erie is the only lake that does.

Superior froze over a few years ago, and it does that occasionally, but normally its open.

The movie is clearly filmed at the Bowers Harbor Yacht Club and Boathouse restaurant, which is on the protected waters of the Grand Traverse Bay West Arm. They filmed in winter with deep snow on the ground so it was clearly winter. There wasn't even a fringe of ice on the water. Maybe they had deep snow early in the season when they filmed this, but I would expect Traverse Bay to freeze over, no? Even the harbors in Chicago typically freeze up.
