Gray water question

Purchased a 1979 oday 25 late this summer, and have been opening hatches and crawling around trying to become familiar with her. I noticed that the sink in the head drained to a thru hull, but when I checked the sink in the galley, the gray water didnt exit any thru hull because there wasnt any. Instead, the drain hose was connected to a gate valve plumbed into the hull. Where does the gray water go, and what is the seacock for?

The head sink drain goes to a through-hull that is above the waterline and supposedly doesn't require a seacock. the galley head goes to a below-the-waterline thru-hull, and therefore DOES require a seacock. We have found on our O40 that given sufficient heel and speed, we can get sea water to back up through the head sink, especially if there is significant pitching. i believe that that is the ratinale, so to drain the galley sink, open the seacock and close it when done.
