Assuming it hasn't been mounted yet.....Is it a portable unit, or fixed? Do you plan to mount it to a bracket, or a flush surface like a navpod? Will it be hardwired to your battery, or does it have a DC "cigarette lighter" plug? What kind of pedestal guard do you have? What other instruments are mounted there?

Hi,
Thanks for reply.
I forgot to mention that my boat is C30 1989.
It's a new Garmin 535 Bracket Mounting Unit, not being install yet.
I've run the wire from battery compartment thru the aft cabin toward the lazarette [stern] bulk.
I would like to mount my unit to a pedestal guard, above cup/table holder, having crossbar. My problem is: how to get wire to the unit hiding one as much as possible.
Thanks again.

I'm in the market as were . Colonial Beach
In MK II, there is enough room to run some wires through the pedestal. You can run the wires from the aft cabin back into the rear lazzerette. Once this has been accomplished you will find an area where some wiring comes out of the rudder box. You can run it into the rudder box and up to the pedestal. Make sure that your wires stay clear of the cables for the rudder.

The easiest way of all to run this would be to start at the pedestal and run your wire from there back to the switch pannel.

I have a 1989 C30 that I wired a Garmin pedistal guard mounted GPS as follows ...drill hole in stainless pedistal guard tubing, undo pedistal guard from cockpit deck, feed wire through tubing, run wire pack to interior stern, across interior stern (end of aft berth) then along starboard side beneath trim at hull to deck joint to electrical panel. Rebed pedistal guard with sycaflex and "bobs your uncle".

Re: GPS

I just purchased a Garmin that I am going to pedestal mount. Do you recommend wiring to the electrical panel in the lazarette or direct to the battery? Thanks for the information.

Run the wires back to the electrical panel at the nav station. That makes access to the fuses more accessible, and you can shut all of the electronics at one place. The only electrical panel that I am aware of near the lazarette is for the engine and it may be electrically noisy.
