Using GoPro 3 a black and a white. We are a Mac house, and the files need to be converted to be manipulated in iMovie. They will likely always be too big to email, it's pretty easy to get short clips in the 100 meg range. Edit them on the computer, upload them YouTube, and set them as private if you don't want the world to find them. If you email the link to people, they can find them.

You're right, the junk you need to support them can easily add up to the camera cost, but the GoPro is easily the most diverse line of accessories available, the thing that would be really nice, and isn't available, is a separate USB charger. One where you take the battery out and charge it. Currently, you have to charge it IN the camera, and that kinda negates having extra batteries available, unless you charge them the night before sort of thing.

Meriachee, that was pretty cool, man. I like it. The sea is tough. Really took a 'beatdown' getting that ball, huh? Hurley would've been proud..

How do you do those credits? Just curious.

It was a "canned" thing in iMovie. Not particularly useful, but fun.

Hey all, we crossed last season. I really wish I had forked out for a GoPro. Some of the amazing 360 degree views of rolling swell... or black lines of squalls in the ITCZ or some of the most spectacular coral and fish I've ever seen in the Tuamotus. I have no images/videos of these that do them justice.

I wish I had brought a GoPro and attached it to our arch for the crossing and used it under water while at anchor.

Just a thought.

video and email simply do not mix, unless you only want to send 5 seconds worth of video. Think about it, for every second of high def video you are essentially sending 60 high res pictures, plus audio. The file sizes are just too large and there's no such thing as small pixels and high def.

If you want to share your videos the only real easy way to do it is to upload the videos to a site like youtube or vimeo then email the link to your friends. As for editing the videos, I have decent luck with windows movie maker, but it's kind of a clunky program. Gets the job done though.

Careful about that. The charger is a simple 2.1a wall wort. GoPro does not have a true external charger, so if you buy an extra battery, you have to charge it IN the camera. We have a battery "back pack" which almost doubles the battery life, but at the unpublished cost of twice the usb requirement for recharging, and no decrease in charge time. This is truly the downside of all this stuff, it spends an inordinate amount of time plugged in.
(unless of course you have a BlueSea Systems usb outlet in the bottom of your NavPod)
