One other thing. Why would anyone use garlic if it keeps vampires away? That syrupy East European voice and smokin' hot look is what every sailor worth his rum is hoping for aren't they?

I don't think vampires were mentioned in the explanation I found. It was more geared to those evil people that try to bring bananas aboard!!!
Bad juju is always twice as strong as good juju. Just like anything in life, bad is easier than good. Spending money is easy easier than earning money.
