Thanks Joe, I was afraid of either the rigging snapping on me or maybe the main sail blowing out. I also put the centerboard back temporarily with window caulking because I didn't get my bottom paint yet to put a few coats. I plan on taking it apart again once the paint comes in. All in all it was very worth taking it out for a few hours. Had a blast.
The funniest thing was with all four of us weighing an average 200lbs the boat didn't even heal that bad it was sliding sideways on the water on a close haul and experienced some serious weather helm. On a broad reach or downwind we hit 12.4mph max with just the main. I didn't bother setting up the jib. Plus I didn't want to risk to breaking it as I expected the rigging or main to blow up.
The mainsail was so over taxed that we commented on how it was almost looking like a parachute. Probably didn't help that we didn't connect the boom vang. I could see the light coming from the seams of the mainsail as well.
