St Pete (where the Rays REALLY play!!) is on fire!
I've never seen anything like it (and our Bucs won a superbowl a few years ago). Eveyone is wearing Rays clothes and hats, you get an enthustiastic smile and wave from anyone that hears you say "go Rays", it's all we're talking about!
I live 1 1/2 miles from the dome, the marina is less than 20 blocks from the dome, in the heart of a totally revitalized downrown. Amazing.
Whether we win or lose, this area is proud of the team that went worst to first, and it's class act manager.
The Rays play alot like NL teams- small ball- hit & runs, stealing, just not alot of sac bunts, I guess because of the DH. But we have the talent to play long ball, too, and in spite of the game 5 blunder, our bullpen has been great.
With Baldelli back, we have 3 centerfielders with blinding speed, defensively, and on the bases. And I'll make the prediction right now- the Rays will have 2 players that will be allstars for years to come- Longoria (hitter of cooperstown ability), and pitcher David Price, who started his pro career THIS year in A ball. Unbelievable talent!
As a Met fan, I despise the Phillies, so, even though it wouldn't be devastating for this young team to lose, it would kill me to lose to THEM...
Enjoy the games, and good luck to all!
