Getting under the bridge

If you need to clear a sixty foot bridge then you just hoist the bags so that the bottom of the bag is 59 feet from the mast head. when it touchs the water you are good to go.

The lower bag touching the water is the indicator that he has reach the correct amount of heel to clear the bridge. He will allow the bags to swing out far enough to let the lower touch as he nears the bridge. I have seen this system a few times and it is pretty cool. Chuck

They must hoist the bag high enough at the start because it can touch the water when the bottom of the bag is 75 feet from the mast head if that is as high as it was hoist.

That makes perfect sense.
