Gennaker: forward of forestay or aft?

Joe, the link didn't point to anything specific, and I could not find the 'bracket' in the rigging section. Where did you find it?
Thanks

Well, over the many years, I have put the chute through the fore-triangle on several occasions. But, it was never in the plan. ;-)

And if mine is not a halyard, then what is it??

Cheers
Do you have a CDI furler? If you do you might be using your jib halyard as a spin halyard.
If not a picture might help sort this out.

Spin halyards NEVER do that. If it exits below the forestay, its not a spin halyard.
Hold on there cowpoke. Ours, both of them, exit right beside the forestay, and if pulled forward (not mostly down) they will quickly get hung up in the tang. The picture that Gunni references is what our crane now looks like, and the kite halyard routes the same way. The only way to get one of the "factory" halyards to go forward enough to get to the block would be to reroute them through the top of the mast cap. (and yes, you're hearing me say that there's a limit)

OK right, to be more clear the mast EXIT might be below, as long as the halyard is run up the the masthead and the crane. The only trick is that the run up from the mast exit is clean.

Thanks guys. Sorry for taking over the post, but hopefully Alistair and I both learn from this discussion.
I don't have any pictures, but when I go there tomorrow I will bring binoculars to get an 'up close look' at the arrangement.

If I source a crane for my set-up, can it be installed with the stick in the air, or does it have to come down?

Cheers

@DaveJ , We've been down the crane road a couple of times. The issue is that the "factory" halyards will bind with the tang that holds the forestay if they don't route pretty much down from the mast exit. Here's what it looks like without the crane, and you can see how it would intersect with the tang if extended forward to a block on the crane.

Our current version extends a solid 6" in front of the furler swivel, but also uses it's own halyard since the tang is still in the way.

This crane was welded up from 3/16 angle aluminum, bolts to the original crane mounts, and also has two bolts into the mast. It's very solid and very light. This is the part just back from the tig shop, prior to machining and cleanup.

I'll get a picture on the weekend now that the mast is back up.
The 310 is virtually identical to the 270, just bigger.

Hope it helps
Gary

Being blessed with both a spinnaker halyard and a free jib halyard (Genoa furler has its own setup), I plan to try gybing outside and inside the furler to see which method I prefer.
Is anyone a fan of the ATN Tacker?
Cheers! Alastair.
