Would it be possible to install a generator in a Hunter 320? If so, who
might I contact about finding the proper unit.

Certainly possible but ya have to decide where you are willing to give up the space and rremember that wherever you put it, it will have to be serviced.. A good boat yard could install it with the necessary sound control enclosure.. This is about the most compact small unit I have seen and looks to be powerful enough for starting an air cond unit up through about 16000 BTU.. http://www.apelectric.com/3-0-BPMG-...rk=gdfV21065_a_7c276_a_7c712_a_7c3.0BPMG_d_FW

This one is gasoline .. so it would need a tank and some safety stuff to install.

Panda

I have a diesel 4200 Fisher Panda in my 2007 H-36 and it is very compact and nice small size but you will pay dearly for the fact of its a diesel and compact size.
Do you have any nice size open compartments in your cockpit like the 356/36 Hunters.

genset

On a 320 you really don't have space for a built-in genset. Weight will also be a problem. I would think that just about any place you might have a prayer of squeezing one in would screw up the trim of the boat. A properly installed diesel genset will most likely run $10K plus. Money you'll never get back out when and if you sell or trade up.

Kind of half-ass but worked well. I saw a guy that had small gasoline portable (3kw or so) and just ran it in the cockpit when anchored to run a small air conditioner. He ran a flex pipe from the exhaust and under the water. Was very quiet and seemed to perform well.

Yup.. Several guys on this forum use the little Honda 2000 inverter generator .. It can apparently start an air conditioner up to about 12000 BTU.. although some need a "hard start kit" installed on the air cond unit to get it to work.. If you get the EU 20000 i Companion, it even has a plllug that will fit your shore power cable.. but ya have the problem of safely carrying gasoline and making sure that the carbon monoxide doesn't blow into the cabin somehow.

Thanks guys... probably not the best idea for me to
try this considering all that I've learned from your
comments.... just another good reason to try to
talk my wife into a bigger boat !!!
