I have a 1975 C27 and have discovered some pinhole leaks in the old gas tank for my A4. I have a few questions about what I should do and what I am going to find when I go to take the tank out. I'd appreciate any help you can offer. 1) I'm inclined just to replace the old tank and the hoses. What is the best, most reasonably priced replacement? I have a dinette model 27, if that matters. 2) What holds the tank in place? I can't see anything from the vantage point I now have. 3) What's the best way to strap down a new tank? 4) Is there any reason I should haul the boat to do this job? I guess siphoning out the gas would be easier... 5) If you've done this job, what do you know now that you wish you'd known when you started it?

catalina 27 fuel tank

I replaced the tank on my 1975 27. In order to get the tank out you have to cut the section out between the two access holes over the tank. Make two neat cuts and you can reinstall it with splice plates underneath across the joints. There are tabs on the new tanks from Catalina. I just glassed the tank in place over the tabs. You do not need to haul the boat. Be very careful draining the tank. Use a hand pump, not electric. Replace every hose associated with the fuel system, fill line, vent and fuel line to the engine. they make special fuel fill and vent hose, make sure that you get the correct hoses. Make sure that you have a positive ground wire connection from the fill port to the tank. I would also put an electric fuel pump on and a canister filter. They are a great improvement to the engine.
