I recently purchased a 521 to mount above my nav pod. The 521 has an internal GPS. My question is when I have the bimini open will the GPS be able to "see through" it or will I need to add an external GPS, which is an option for the 521. Yes, I should have thought of this before...but I didn't:cry:

Most internal antennas will even work down below and shoot through the fiberglass. Try it, you'll like it.

Should work just fine. Our small Garmin handheld "sees through" the fiberglass cabin top of our boat when we're down below. A canvas bimini should pose no problem.

Thanks, The one in the admiral's car is subject to the recall but isn't one of the units that catches fire.
BTW A long time ago while checking some built in GPS antennae (s?) on laptops they would work in the front seat of most metal roofed vehicles, only thing blocked them was fire engines with diamond plate on the roof. These were second generation GPS chips, the third generation in current use are much faster and more robust in signal aquisition.
