Just went to the boat after the driving rain we had a couple days ago. Bilge had 4 inches of water in it. Luckily it was above freezing and the water wasn't frozen. I have a winter cover that 3/4's of the length and extends down to the toe rail. Normally it keeps the water out. I'm thinking of installing a garboard drain to eliminate the collection of water in the bilge. Anyone done this on their C27 and/or have suggestions on adding the drain?

I had a friend who had a Choy Lee 42' once and it had a screw in bronze gar-board drain on the side of keel placed right at the lowest point of bilge. If I was in the more northern climates and had to deal with winter haul outs this is what I would do.
Back in my j-24 racing days we dry sailed using a crane to launch and retrieve....It had a defunct knot meter that never worked, but would pull the dummy plug while stored on the trailer.
Just do not forget to put it back in before launching:naughty:.....We forgot one day we were just gonna go out to do some messing around so we were not in a hurry. One of my crew stepped aboard to undo lifting strap from keel bolts. And found water about a foot and half of water above the cabin sole. We slowly lifted her back up to let the bay water drained out. While still hanging from crane my smallest crew member carefully climb aboard and put the plug back in. We drop her back in the water, hoisted the old batten less main we used for these events , grabbed the frozen Margarita cooler and went sailing. :theman:No cushions no electrical or motor kept aboard so no harm was done. We just hosed her out after we put her back on the trailer before heading back home that Sunday evening.
