I am considering purchasing a used Catlina 27 for my first sailboat. Any comments would be appreciated re: your experience with this boat. I'd also like to know if anyone has info. and/or opinions re: installing a jib self furler -- any ideas on cost and degree of difficulty installing? My e-mail address is hcdboblup@aol.com Thanks much. Bob

furler installation.

I bought a used Catalina 27 a few months ago. Ours didn't have a furler but we had the broker install and add it into our loan on the boat. If you are going to do this get in writing exactly what is going to be installed on your boat. We have a Schaefer 750 on our normal rig with a 150 Genoa. I would rather have one size larger furler as the drum on the 750 really isn't big enough to handle the amount of line needed for the 150 to furl completely. It was installed for us but I don't think the installation would be very difficult for one to do on their own. You would probably need to borrow some swaging tools. Also you will need to get the sail you are going to put on it recut. Ours was installed by the broker and sail recut for $1600 to give you some idea of the money you are looking at.
