as the fuel goes in, air has to come out...and when the air is rushing out of the vent, and the fuel level is nearing the vent as you fill the tank, any motion of the boat that causes the fuel to splash over the vent port in the tank, will create a "burp"... or when it becomes full and there is no more air to come out, fuel will exit the vent... because the filler neck is higher than the vent outlet. We have 2005 H460LE with a 76 hp yanmar turbo and a Panda generator. When fueling at the dock the diesel fuel always burps out of the fuel vent. I have tried pumping the fuel very slowly and yet without warning the fuel burps out of the vent.
