I know it is a sailboat, but still need to know.

What has been the experience of Albin owners in regards to fuel burn
per hour and at what cursing speed was this rate?

thanks,
Keith

Hi!
As I´m new to this, other with more experience can have other results,
but when motoring my boat home I noticed following:
Enginge, Albin O22 gas engine, 0,4 lit/hour at a speed of 5 knots.

Cheers,
Tomas

During our last holiday we used our engine for about 25 hours at an average
of one liter (diesel or gasoil as you call it) per hour. Our average speed
at that time was between 4 and 6 knots.

Hope this helps.

I can't resist (see below): "cursing speed"!! Well named when engine is
giving trouble...

I do notice that when I run engine at full throttle - giving a speed in
flat water of about 6 knots, that consumption is very high. I haven't
quantified this yet.

Moral: keep revs down unless you are in a hurry..

My Vega V-257 is powered with a Yanmar 1GM10 Diesel and (at
calm sea) cruises at 6.5 m/h (5.7 knots/h), running at 3000

Thanks all for your feedback.

John, may I use the excuse that the keyboad letters never seem to
be in the same place twice? :)

huummm, but then maybe when a person is typing fast his real
thoughts tend to come to the surface unbidden.... :)

thanks,

Hi All

Cruising revs you should get 1 litre per hour. Speed will be dependant
on conditions. Flats ea and no tides or winds should get 5 knots easily.
I have been down to a couple of knots when wind and tides conspire
against me!!

What size prop do you have on your Beta - Mine's a 12x8 but feel a 12x9
might be a better choice (I could be wrong), is there any one out there
with experience of this? A few weeks ago I motored at ~4.5-5 knots for
14 hours (not a breath of wind) on just over 10-12 litres of fuel.

I have a Yanmar 2GM with a 14 x 11 prop - Bit over powered but:

Full power at 7knts it uses 1.7 litres per hour

Cruising at 5 kts circa 2000 rpm it uses about .75 litre per hour

We cruise most of the time at 5 - 6 kts with ease. Recently came from
Alderney back to the needles, motoring into a nasty head wind the whole way
- Time taken 10hrs exactly - Distance just over 60 NM

Hi Ray

12x8 is just too small and 12x9 is just too big! Perfect would be a
12x8.5

I have a 12x8 and works great.

Concupmtion is good when at sensuible revs, if you hammer it then
consumption will rocket!

Cheers

Are you talking the Bank Holiday Weekend?

Might be able to meet Fri night, but have commitments Sat afternoon so would
have to leave at lunch.

Will call you

Tim

PS - Word of advice for anyone fitting a new mast to a VEGA. Fill the hole
that the wires go through. I didn't and now have to lift the mast again as
every time it rains water pours down below - New mast has the halyards etc
running inside, not like the original.

I have MD7A on my Vega, I calculate 1lt/hour at abt 5 knots of speed. My RPM gauge is not working so cannot say anything about the power :)

In line with what written by Steve and Metacentre, my Vega, equipped with the Volvo MD7A and the original Volvo Combi system (2 blades feathering prop) on a flat sea without current, was consuming 1L/hour at 5 knots and 0.7L/hour at 4 knots. Now I have installed the Beta 14 but I have not yet tried it.
