Fuel consumption- do you know yours?

I have a Universal 14hp inboard diesel and will be making my maiden voyage in Mid-april. I was wondering if anyone knew the fuel consumption of this engine at cruis spd 80% of max RPM= approx 5kts. Hull spd is 6.25. If you have a similar HP range, I would still be interested in a general ballpark figure to calculate. Thanks.

Easy

The previous posters know their engines. In time you will know yours too. Prior to the maiden voyage, top off the fuel tank. Run 34 speed for 3 hours. Refill tank. Calculate. Easy. These numbers will fluctuate slightly however even with just one steady run you will have a general idea of fuel consumption. Increase the above calculated consumption rate by 5% for a margin of error and never include the last 2 gallons in the tank regarding any expedition planning. Over time you can nail the cunsumption rate like the other posters.

Proper English

Let me clarify with better English :) Running 34 speed underway during the maiden voyage.

Fuel

I have a c-27 with a 14hp Universal. I use slightly more than a quart an hour at 2300rpm and 5.2kts in flat water. I always figure 3 hours per gallon just to be on the safe side.

C-30 Same motor

Although my boat is the larger C-30 (with the 14HP M-18 motor), I tend to cruise a bit slower, so the fuel burn might be similar. I burn about 1/2 gal per Hour.
