fresh water flush on toilet

I know I am need of a rebuild on the head, it's been many years but it is still working. I have seen many posts about having fresh and raw water both hooked to the head so if I need to fix mine I will do it at the same time. My question is this, When sailing/motoring I have both thru hulls shut off, {raw water and overboard pump}. When I need water to flush I turn on the bathroom sink, the water flows from the faucet, down the sink drain and into the head giving me water to flush with. Is there anything wrong with this set up? Except for wasting alittle fresh water. It works fine and is sooo much easier than going forward twice, lifting cushions and turning the valve. 2nd Question, If the heads were to have siphon valves {as in their directions}, why didn't the boat manufactures do it right and install them when they were building the boat? I know "it's about the money" but a siphon valve is cheap. as always, thanks, Jack

Check valve

Check valve I think you will need a check valve to ensure the water is not back flow into your sink, especially when you are using the raw water to flush.

Not a thing wrong with that setup

Nor does he need a check valve in the sink...'cuz there's no way that sea water being pulled into the toilet via the same thru-hull as the sink drain can backflow into the sink unless the sink the were lower than the toilet. He does need to keep the sink plugged when using sea water though...otherwise, the toilet will pull in air from the sink, preventing it from priming. But since it seems to work ok now, he prob'ly has that handled. Your second question is a good one..and one that you should be asking builders, not me. However, most do put 'em in...it's OWNERS who remove 'em when they replace toilets...'cuz new ones aren't included with toilets, so they assume--because they didn't bother to read the installation for the new toilet--that the new toilet doesn't need 'em. Someone here not too long ago did just that...I THINK we were able to let him know he shouldn't have done that in time to get the loops back out of the dumpster. :)
