Just got info from a friend about anengine for the free boat. A yanmar 35 hp for $500. Gonna go check it out at 0900 tomorrow! THe story is it was a running take out from a guys boat that worked for Perkins, or Volvo Penta which gave him a new motor. The guy sold the yanmar to this guy who bought it for a spare for his identicle yanmar35. I don't know about a transmition yet, but i will find out tomorrow. He says he even has a "rebuild" gasket set for it-but it don't need to be rebuilt yet. He is selling it cuz his mechanic told him his current engine don't need to be replaced? He evidently had fuel problems. So, once again i am energized. WE shall see. Is yanmar 35hp a good size for the morgan 33 oi? And are they usually a good motor? Hell, the one i'm replacing is only 23hp. Might get close to hull speed? I already have books on diesels-Nigel Calder, troubleshooting-Compton, and a college text diesel fundamentals-Thiessen.Dales. Nigels book is good reading. But so many variables. Anyway will check replies in am before i go check the motor. Basically i know i need to check if its frozen and has compression. Also, the general appearance-rust. Anything else? How hard and exspensive is it to buy a tranny-used? Patrick
