Some of you may remember last week's thread on a fraudulent listing on eBay. I reported it to eBay, as I believe others did also, and received the following email from eBay's Trust and Safety dept.: Thank you for writing eBay in regard to the suspicious listing of member george_2183 for a 2005 Catalina 310 Sailboat , Yacht , 31 feet (item number 330130960459). The items recently listed with george_2183's account were the result of an unauthorized account takeover. We were not aware of this activity until after the listings appeared on the site. As soon as we became aware that an unauthorized person took over this account, we reacted immediately to resolve the problem. We are currently in the process of restoring the account to its true owner. We appreciate your effort for reporting us this rare incident of account takeover. Your efforts makes the whole eBay community a safer place to trade. If you receive an email offering to complete this sale, we strongly encourage you not to accept the offer. Such a purchase would take place outside of the eBay site, so it would not be eligible for eBay services, including dispute resolution, Feedback, requests for contact information, and PayPal buyer protection services.

Trouble at Ebay ??

I have an ebay account but have never bought or sold anything on it. Twice this year I was contacted by what I thought was a "fake" ebay message. One stated I had not not copmpleted a purchase of a truck and was being penalized for it on my account the other said something was wrtong with my account and would I clarify the information in it. Both messages encouraged me to log in and report one thing or another. So I guess it is "BEWARE"

those were scammers doing what is known as "phishing". eBay will never ask for account information in an email. They might contact you, but the message will appear in your 'My Messages' folder in 'My eBay' as well as in your email. That's possibly how the account hijacker got access: the real owner of the account fell for a ruse and delivered his password to the scammer. If you ever get that sort of message again, forward it immediately to "spoof at eBay dot com" and they will deal with it. Be well Chris

Paypal too

Beware of email solicitations from Paypal too. I received a couple of weird emails from "Paypal", that were suspicious since I never used my account, asking for personal info. I reported them to Paypal, and they were indeed the work of nasties.

Terry in Naples and all the others,When I receive

questionable emails from "paypal" I forward them to EBay, and delete the questionable (spam? Phishing?)email and then I log onto Ebay and check My Paypal account.

There is a simple solution.

NEVER click on the link that comes in the suspicious email. Log in to your account from the website and verify. The same sort of scams are pulled with banks and credit cards.

My pay pal account

has it's own credit card with a low dollar amount. So if someone were to gain access to it they cant get very much. I get "spoof" mail every week with someone trying to gain access to one account or another. Just take the proper precautions as you would anything you put on the computer and you'll be OK. The only sure way to be totally safe is to be dead. Keep it up, Ctskip
