Unless you have some 'test numbers and data' from actual and detailed filter performance evaluations ... that could very well be the case.and your eyes may indeed be lying to you as this 'stuff' is simply NOT 'intuitive'.
Rich.

I gave you more credit than this. Either your not reading what ive stated, not looking at the links I provided, or your simply being obstinate.

For the umpteenth time, I am not talking about FILTRATION. The Fram filter material works perfectly fine. I am talking about documented cases of total COLLAPSE of the filter element, element blow through, failure of the bypass valve, failure of the anti drain back valve, and rupture of the filter housing canister leading to rapid oil loss. Outside of rupture and oil bypass, the most damaging is sending filter material directly into the oil galleys and stopping or limiting oil flow to a bearing. I have personally seen that TWICE.

I think your looking at this myopically, without regard to the "package" as a whole. The filter material isnt the problem, its everything else. And if you dont want to believe any of the above problems, which I have personally SEEN with my own eyes, can ruin an engine, I really dont know what else to say. Keep using them, it keeps a lot of mechanics busy repairing engines when they fail. And they DO fail.

The author of the link Anchorclanker cited (Knize) expressly says that all statements concerning filters "contains more of my personal opinion than fact. " This is because the author relies exclusively on rumor, there is no data, no testing, and no facts supporting his recommendations.

Anchor, I think Rich is sort of in the same mindset as I am.. I have worked a lot in machinery failure investigation and I need to see the documented numbers of real information before I can formulate an opinion. You have a different slant, and I respect that you've seen those things that you speak to.. My opinion gets formed if I would see a plot of the oil pressure numbers and oil quality, filter service time, etc. prior to those failures .. there are really too many unknown variables in the small number of failures listed for me to generally condemn a brand or a product line within that brand. I am not saying that your observations are wrong, I am saying that I can't form an opinion until I know the particulars of a failure.. I am talking all the way down to micro-photographs and weld tests and material verification and stuff like that.. For instance, I would like to know how many filters have NOT failed when they had correct oil pressure, were installed correctly, had not encountered road impact damage, had not been previously plugged from poor maintenance.. etc.. All the manufacturers use statistical quality control on these sorts of things and so not many of the items are actually tested in a run. Some folks may go beyond the guidelines (but they do meet the requirements set out by the manufacturers of the engines that use the filter) and sample more, some less.. so there will be "failures" in all items like this .. some failures will manifest as worse than others.. it is a roll of the dice, but the dice are really loaded toward the "OK" side.. Like I said.. I am not saying you are wrong, I am saying that I need to be convinced by real, statistically significant, information that includes most of the pertinent variables. OK I am tired of reading about this poor kicked up dead horse!
