I had to move and prepare my sailboat for Ivan in a hurry. Due to my haste my Nissan 2003 8hp four stroke got stored for five days horizontally, with the choke and pull start facing up. The manual recommends storing vertically or with the tiller handle on the bottom when stored horizontally. When I put the motor back on its mount I noticed few drips of oil coming from the general area of the lower unit. I managed to get the motor started, but only ran it briefly as it was exhausting from above the water line a bunch of blue smoke. I assume oil seeped into the cylinder, and would like any info on what to do to the motor beyond changing lower unit and motor oil, and flushing the cooling lines. Can I just run the motor to burn the oil out of the cylinder?
