For Christmas, I received a Autohelm ST4000 Plus and I'm beginning to think about how to install it. The one question that comes to mind is, Have any of you installed this and were did you place the flux gate compass? The manual states "to minimise gimbal disturbance, be positioned as near as possible to the bitch and roll centre of your boat." Not a lot of places on a 260 that meets that criteria. Jim S/V Java

Low and away from magnetic disurbances.

Just install it low and in an area that will not be subjected to magnetic disturbances, i.e. metal objects, stereo, radios, etc. In any case, once installed, you will need to adjust it as per the instructions in the book. Very easy to do. Good luck.

Oops, almost forgot...

to mention to keep it away from bilge water. There is low and then there is low...

JIm; I believe it has to mounted on a vertical surface. Why not the wall in rear berth under the wheel steering. You need to talk with ole Crazy Dave Crazy Dave

Dave What are doing reading the forum!?

You are supposed to be delivering my baby! What did Eddie say? Just checking the group to see where anyone else placed theirs. Seems as though the aft bulkhead would be to far aft for pitch placement. I was thinking underneath the companionway steps. Got to wait until the boat is in the driveway so I can crawl around. Jim
