Have not had the problem but if you habitually ran the engine at a reduced RPM you may have some build up. A Rydlyme flush would clean it out.
I may have babied the engine a bit by not running it up in that 80% range as I'm learning now I should have. I'll have to look up the procedure to do a Rydlyme flush.

Thanks

I have 87 45' Legend. Same power configuration just switched from 2 blade too 3 blade 18" wasn't happy with reverse of old prop new 3 blade better. I usually cruise at 3, 3200 rpm best fuel consumption but can run 3600 plus if needed

We must have a different power plant because my 4JH4-E max RPM is 3000 rpm. I am very happy with the 3 blade 18" Flexofold prop.

They kept denying they made a mistake. Finally I ask if I was to go down one size what would it be. Keld then told me and how much it would cost - $1100. I bit the bullet and as I stated I now have the correct size prop. I still have my old blades if anyone needs them. I love the prop but would never do business with this company again.
Hi sail gunner, do you still have your old blades?, three blade? And size again if so what would you want for them? It appears I'm going to have to change also!

Discovery, I think you have the same engine and tranny I do: 76 hp, 2.62 reduction, 1.25 shaft. My flexofold is 20 x 14 x 3 and it works great. My engine is rated at 3600 rpm WOT and that's what the prop gives me. The engine temp starts to climb at WOT so I don't stay there but 2-4 minutes. I back off a couple hundred rpm and the temp comes down immediately. Again, flexofold wanted to sell me the 22x14 but I thought that too much for the engine to handle.

Yes that's my engine, but 3200 rpm is tops for me, it's been a big issue, don't understand why we,would be 400 rpms different with same engine and same prop, I,had the compression check and it was good, still looking for the issue if not the prop?

I assume your prop is clean. A fouled prop can really affect performance. With your dark exhaust that does indicate a problem. Just for grins has the tach been checked for accuracy?
