I'm hoping to get this thing operable, but the shear pin isn't on the boat. Global Equip.
Anybody got a material recommendation for a 3/16ths shear pin? Aluminum?

Any shear pin I’ve ever seen, whether for a boat prop, snow blower, etc. was made of brass.

Here is the owner's manual for the Fleming.

No mention of the shear pin in there, but contact information supplied.

In Australia they have the reputation for being the best.
Second hand ones go for almost new prices . No devaluation.

Personally I would make a shear pin out of some material that shears easily, i.e. aluminum with a shallow hacksaw cut.
But, brass with a shallow hacksaw cut would be my second choice.

Got any ideal what the metals are where the shear pin goes? I'd want to make sure my shear would shear and that little to no corrosion may be a concern.

The casting is 2205 duplex alloy stainless steel.

Nice!

I'd use a 302, 304 or 316 austenitic stainless steel. Easy to come by and compatible with your duplex alloy. The 2205 should have a Brinell hardness of about 293 while the austenitics mentioned should be around 201 Brinell for the first two and 217 Brinell for the 316. You could use a shoulder bolt that fits the hole tightly, score it with a file or saw (if you don't have access to a lathe) at the spaces between where it's to shear and you should be good to go. No significant dissimilar metals problem - the austenitics should shear easy enough without damaging your 2205 hole.

Good luck! I'd love to hear how you make out.

I appreciate the metallurgical input, and will certainly update.
Found an email addy for a guy who supposedly bought out the original owner, but no response as of yet.
