Has anyone replaced the fixed side windows on the hunter 34? If so lead me in the right direction.
Thanks,
Joe

Joe, if ya have aluminum frame windows you can repair them pretty easily as in the link that Jim noted.. If ya have the plastic frames, there is not a lot that can be done when they start getting brittle and cracking. There was a post here about a place that can custom make some new windows and frames to fit. They were expensive.. I have been looking (so far, unsucessfully) for the PVC raw extrusions for the outside part that holds the plexi in place.. I think they were common to the camper/motorhome business, but I've not found 'em yet.

Who's windows are these?

I like the replacement windows on this H34. They appear to be all one piece (bridging the two openings). I've got my measurments but could benefit from some additional details.

By the way, the picture came from the Sailboat Store showing the Bimini that is sold there for the H34. It looks so good that our's is on order.

Joe, That picture that Allan posted is a good option for replacement since you can use the old interior trim. There have been some great posts about how to properly install those outer windows.. MaineSail and Roger Long have posted some really good pictures of how to .. Roger has a source that can provide the new plexi, cut to the correct size .. The guidance for external mounted plexi has been: Use Butyl tape (or Dow 795) about 1/8" thick and hard spacers inside in a few places to keep the window from squashing out the sealant.. Countersink the holes in the cabintop for better sealing and oversize-drill the window holes to allow for movement without cracking the windows. Don't use countersink screws on the windows, again, to let the pane move a little without cracking. I haven't seen a 34 with one glass covering both ports, but in that dark tint, it looks OK..

Why fixed?

I have the same deadlights in my H40 and when they come out for good I'll be recutting the opening and installing opening ports. I'm currently lusting after the stainless stuff from New Found Metals and Hood. Unfortunately, I'm getting whining noises from my wallet.

I recently installed tri part portlights from new found metals on my H34 and love them. I'm in my 3rd or 4th season and the only problem I had was discoloration of outside trim, which they replaced. The other issues was the ports would not open fully due the angled mounting and I added an additional spring to the port to solve problem. Cost was much lees than the SS and are also much lighter. michkahn
