Fitting new windows

One of our yachts is a little "princess" (18'). She was built in Sydney Australia and is a lot of fun to sail. It has two windows each side that were held on (outside surface mount) with rivets and silicon. The perpex has now cracked and needs replacing on all four. I have cut the new material which is similar to perpex but a lot stonger and what I plan to do is use sicaflex to hold them on rather than use a whole bunch of rivets. My question is has anyone got a bright idea as how to hold them against the side of the hull while the sicaflex sets. I thought of running peicees of timber across the cabin top and extend out perhaps a foot each side and brace back to each window. Any help would be very much appreciated.

Holding window in place

You can use this method with either the boat in or out of the water. Take a length of rope, old halyard would do, and loosely loop the rope completely around the boat at the point where the window in in place. Make a "T" out of wood that would extend past the width of the window. Place the "T" on the window and place the rope over the leg of the "T" that sticks out. Now insert a piece of wood between the loop and the boat and begin to twist the piece of wood so the rope would now begin to twist and the rope would tighten. Continue twisting until the rope is tight enough to get you the results you are looking for. You can, once you get your desired tightness tie the wood handle to the loop so it won't unwind until you are ready. This is a trick I learned from a cabinet maker when he was making tables. If you can't figure out my description, send me an Email and I will attempt to draw you a picture. Regards, Mickey
