Can anyone advise on the best place to install a fire port on the Catalina 310? For example, one like this Fire Port | West Marine

I can't speak directly to a Catalina 310, but mine is installed on the front cover of the engine bay.
On the 310, the front of the cover is also the companionway steps. Putting a port in the steps might make it hard to align a fire extinguisher vertically.
Do you have a photo you can share? On my boat, the steps have to be removed in order to remove the front cover of the engine bay, so I don't have the same limitation.
I don't have a photo. The cover is a large fiberglass box with steps molded into its forward side.
I don't have a photo available, but on the 315, the fire extinguisher port is located on the port side of the companionway steps, sort of in front of the galley refrigerator.

Maybe the triangle area on the aft end would be a good place for the port. Low enough to get to the base of the flames. Extinguisher could be almost vertical. Or right under the latch.
