funny thread for a sailing site

indeed my Dad taught me how to catch moles when I was a kid on a farm in rural Manitoba. We used to probe for a tunnel with a rod- usually near a mole hill. Then dig out a short iece of the top of the tunnel, exposing the tunnel. Then we set a leg hold trap ( I know, I know) in the tunnel. Then we would put a wide piece of thin wood over the hole- we used to use the side off a big apple box- guess you would have to use ply wood now- and cover the wood all up with dirt carefully so NO LIGHT GETS IN TO THE TUNNEL. This is very important. Next morning you will have caught the poor little mole and now you have to figure out whatto do with it. Now where else could you find out this kind of little known information but on this site?

Moles

I'd alway heard those ugly plastic spinning flowers that you stick in the yard drive them away. Worked for us where we last lived. Oh and get rid of the grubs or whatever is in your yard that they are feeding on.

Water or Carbon monoxide

Run a water hose down the Mole Hole. This will sometimes flood them out. If that does not work, then try hooking up a small engine (like on a lawn mower) and run a hose from the exhaust hose from the exhaust side of the engine down their hole. This will take care of the current bunch.

cats

My suggestion is a marina wide ban on any feeding of cats, if that doesn't cause them to go elsewhere, then live traps by the humane society so they can be removed.

Are Feral Cats...

the same thing as wild pussy? If so, you may want to encourage them to get on your boat.... sorry, couldn't resist.

Pete most of us are married!!!

A feral cat is nothing compared to the trouble that a wild pussy would cause. I mean if our wives found a wild pussy on our boats we might lose the boat!!!! Short answer they are not the same... the irony is that they are rarely around when you are single.

Not exactly related...

...however in my extensive travels around the country...I am noticing more and more of them around. Going through southern IL and IN it's hard not to see one every 5 or so miles. Me thinks it's a problem getting bigger! Jack
