Wishing the best for you, Jim.. Call on some friends to sail with you on Java as you work through the tough treatments.. I am honored to have sailed my friends as they walked that way..
Reflecting what others have stated, I read your postings knowing that they come from a man who thinks carefully and has a lot of wisdom contained in his statements. Thank you for your insights! as we cajuns say, "Lache Pas La Patat" literally don't let go of the potato but means "don't give up"!

My wife was an oncology nurse for some time and her observations on those who did well came down to two things, attitude and appetite. Do what ever you can to keep those going and do not hesitate to call on any of us to do whatever we can to help keep them up.

The Animal House reference is a good one Bluto may have been confused on his history but he got the babe and ended up a US Senator! We may actually be better off with Bluto than some of the others we do have.

Jim, like many others I've read your posts with interests and learned to appreciate who you are and how you handled issues. Just a simple "Hang in there buddy" and don't pay attention to the time frame given by the doctors. 3 & 1/2 years ago a real good friend of mine called me and said: "I will not see my boat slip in the water this Spring". He had been diagnosed with the same problem as you and the doctors had given him only a few weeks to live. Out of the blue, I told him don't listen to them. Go through with the treatments but live as normal a life as you can under the circumstances. And he did. I prepared his boat for him, launched it, sailed several times with him, and hauled it for the next 2 seasons before the nasty C got the win. His attitude was incredible. The joy of being able to catch the wind much longer than he had been prognosed helped him, his family and his friends, come to terms with the issue. Do accept the help and enjoy your boat as much as you can. It's the greatest therapy you'll find. We had been friends and sailed together often for more than 30 years but those moments spent messing on the boat with him during those 2 seasons will be cherished forever. As many have said, we're all pulling for you.

REALLY sorry for the news.
I've enjoyed reading your posts for many years and sincerely hope
they continue for many more.
A few of us from Little Creek are planning to cruise the lower Potomac during the last week of June. If you're up for getting out on Java for a few days and can make it down there, we'd love to say hi and cruise with you.

Keep Fighting

A co-workers wife got the same diagnosis except they told her 3 months. She went on the Internet found some doctors in NY who gave her a custom chemo treatment and almost 5 years later she is doing great. It ain't over til it's over.

Update

Jim called me yesterday. He will continue sailing the old salt as he is. HIs spirits are still high and continues to enjoy life but with a new battle. In fact he had to go to JAVA to work on the I think the shaft alignment. I told him about all of your positive responses and suggestions.

I came through Falmouth Tues @ 6:30 AM.....I was going to give you your wake up call as I sometimes do when I head up to NoVa... it was on my mind to call as I sat in traffic on the way home this evening.....and had messages waiting for me from Dave when I got back home.....

This is not over by a loooong shot....Although I'm sure Stan's wanting to have a partner in crime to hang with, I don't think they're ready for both of you just yet.......

So many new treatments.....there's one out there for you

Jim is undergoing chemo for I guess another 4 weeks. He is still bubbly as ever and is even working on JAVA. Look at a current request for info from him regarding his pedestal. He hopes to sail after the chemo and possibly back to the Carib with Joan if all goes well. Maybe I will have to go with him but not sure if that rascal can put up with me. I can tell you he really has appreciated the kind thoughts from everyone.

I have been absent from this board for a long while, and have just read this news from Jim.
I sincerely hope that you are doing well on your journey. I have read many of your posts and you alway's offered good advice.
My advice now is to keep a positive attitude, and keep your chin up.
It's okay to rely on friends sometimes.
