This is ANNA, Sparkman and Stevens design from 2007 built at Brooklin Boatyard, Me. The design brief was STORMY WEATHER (a 1930's S&S design) - above the waterline, a canoe-shaped / fin keel underbody for speed.

Cold moulded hull to keep weight down. She moors in our harbor and I don't think I've seen a much prettier 56'er built in this century.

Curiously, I took this photo today on 4/27, in 2009 (just noticed the date when I stumbled on it).

Wide decks and plenty of ventilation (8 cowl/dorade boxes) for serious ocean racing. It has 2 companionways like STORM WEATHER.

i was a watch captain on this particular vessel on a sail from new england to antigua with a stop in bermuda in december. mr. fontaine did a nice job.
the boat was sold and it now docks 24 miles from sturge. met the new owner on a chairlift skiing one day.

Well, maybe not compared to all of the above, but my new galley for my 50 shades of beige boat interior came out passable. I'm no cabinet maker, but it all works. Miraculously, it went into the cabin without having to start the chainsaw...

Beautiful boat! Am I dreaming?
No! HOI AN is a cold moulded wood composite hull built 10+ years ago at Brooklin Boatyard, Me.

A Spirit of Tradition theme. The design brief is to make us smile at her looks above water as the boat - due to what is down beneath the water - decorates the owners mantle with silver racing trophies thus allowing him to forget the copious amounts of $$ he dolled out in the building.

It apparently works because owners coming back for another, larger more $$$ design, is not that rare an occurrence.

Here's another smile for us that doesn't cost a cent.

At 50’ overall, Hoi An is the perfect combination of daysailing ease and cruising comfort. A high-performance hull and tall carbon rig help her routinely collect the silver in both classic and mainstream fleets. A simple, symmetrical layout comfortably accommodates five, a U-shaped galley and full navigation station are well suited for offshore work. read more

That is light! 17,500 lbs. for a 50' vessel. My H356 is 12,000 or so.
My first notice too. Then the beam to length: 11'6" to 50! That's a blast from the past when you didn't get much below, even in a 50'er.

It sounds like a good seagoing layout below for a modest sized crew at sea for a few days.

I could see this gazelle galloping through a seaway smoothly and at a good clip.

Your Hunter is light, my Islander Freeport 36 is 17,000 lbs. That beauty Hoi An is almost an ultra light. A 50 footer with a 27 HP diesel is intended to sail and, with an SA/D of 24.8, it must sail beautifully, even in light winds.
