My exhaust line that run under my port side lazerette has a T style pipe fitting about midway in the lazerette, that does not connect to anything. Does any one know what this is for? It has a small leak so I would like to replace it. Can I use a straigh piece of pipe? Would pvc be ok? I had attached a picture. Thanks

Exhaust

79: First answer is NO do not use PVC.....Exhaust gases are HOT...now that I have said that let's take a look at what you have (Your picture did not come thru, so I'm winging it on your system). If the "T" you talk about is in the system under an inverted "U" I would say get rid of it. I went through this with an Atomic 4 in a CAT 27 a few years back and it was determined the "standpipe" did nothing but cause a leak. If you have the upside down "U" situation make sure that the upright nearest the engine is about three inches higher that the other side. I had a situation that after a tacking beat when I tried to start my engine that it would not start until I dried or replaced the sparkplugs. Increasing the height in the near U leg about 3 inches solved the problem. Water should be inserted after the U to help cool the exhaust. Good luck.....DAVE

Exhaust

79: I got your pic downloaded. What I think you have is a splice in your exhaust hose with a port for draining it or a the left over for a valve in case of back flow from the exhaust port. What do you need?????...I would get a metal nipple and replace it with a straight connection. A couple of hints.....when dealing with hoses you will find them hard to undo or redo. For undoing I have found using a heat gun on the hose area will limber the hose to make it easier to work with. For shoving metal into rubber if you use liquid soap in and around the inside of the hose it should shove in easy. Also, fyi the USGC standard for hose and metal connection on hoses is to use 2 clamps on each end of the connection. Good luck with your winterization. Let me know how things work out...DAVE
